Athlete Experience & Highlights

It's rare to find me racing or competing. I train for adventures; be it epic bike rides, hiking up mountains, swimming in big lakes and running in the great outdoors. I have recently found a new love for middle distance triathlon events and surprised myself by qualifying for the British Championships, competing for Team Tri Wales, in 2027.

Journey into Coaching
I fell in love with Triathlon and multi-sport in my 20s. I loved moving my body across land and water, being outdoors in the elements, and the rhythm of swim, bike and run. It became an important tool in managing depression and anxiety, giving me purpose through some difficult days.

But after a long period of illness as a teenager, I lacked a foundation of strength and kept getting injured. When a physio pointed out that I needed to be able to lift my own bodyweight on one leg to run without hurting myself, I realised just how much work I had to do.

I wasn't a natural gym-goer.

I felt out of place, but my ambition to be strong kept me going. It wasn't just that I wanted to be injury free, as a woman, I'd always had a secret desire to know what 'strong' felt like but had never found the confidence to explore that part of me.  I read loads, learnt from coaches and mentors, and explored Olympic Weightlifting, Cross-Fit, Pilates, Yoga and Calisthenics. Before long, friends and colleagues were asking for advice and inviting me to run training sessions - it seemed that people saw me as someone who could inspire them to get fit.

The stronger I became, the fitter I felt; physically and mentally.

Being strong brought with it feelings that took me by surprise. It wasn't that I was lifting heavier weights or experiencing less pain, it was an inner confidence - I call it self-efficacy.  It's that feeling that whatever comes your way, you'll cope.  For someone who lacked belief in her own body, this was a revelation.

Triathlon is still my love, but strength training is a kind of therapy for me.

The gym is my playground where I can be creative, playful, experimental and totally tuned into my body. Lifting weights gives me a confidence and sense of reward that I don't always get from other sports - I still lean towards the self-critical and my mind can easily find a reason to judge pace or distance or time. But when I lift weights and challenge my movement in the gym, I can always feel a sense of achievement for having done something really positive for my body and ind.

My journey to building strength (physically and mentally) led me coaching others.

I enjoy teaching and in my previous career I was a social researcher so my curiosity for people and what makes them tick is in my blood. But the aspect of coaching I truly love is working alongside someone to help them discover what they're truly capable of - physically and mentally. Something as simple as getting a bit stronger can have a butterfly effect across the rest of their lives, as it did with mine.

Coaching Experience

My qualifications and experience span strength and conditioning, swimming, and triathlon. I'm passionate about continuing to learn, refining my own practice and helping others find what works for them.

I work with a broad range of people, from those who need encouragement and accountability to get moving, to experienced athletes looking to improve performance. I create multi-sport training plans for busy professionals, and strength and conditioning programmes for performance athletes targeting major races.

As a personal trainer working face-to-face, I visit people in their homes or work with them in the gym. Some are starting from scratch, while others are ready to push themselves to the next level.  I work with teenagers who are looking for guidance and everyone else in the decades beyond.

Coaching Philosophy

Coaching brings together my curiosity for people, my fascination with how the body moves, and my nurturing personality. Having experienced self-doubt about my own body and abilities, I understand how important it is to feel supported as you develop strength and fitness.  Some of us need accountability, structure or inspiration. And some of us need some clarity in a landscape of click-bait fitness trends.

I believe great coaching is about understanding the person, not just the athlete. It means listening, building confidence, adapting to individual needs and creating an environment that is inclusive, enjoyable and effective. Training should deliver results, but it should also inspire, be memorable and provide opportunities to learn and grow.
